One our main activities for the term was looking at Flight.
We read the novel Robopop. We drew Tarragon, the robot, Ben and his dog in PowerPoint.

We wrote a character description of one of Robopop's characters.
Mr Andrew Carter came and spoke to us about how aeroplanes fly. We found out that aeroplanes have thrust to move them forward, lift, weight and drag.
He explained about aerofoils.
Our first trial
Our first trial winner
We were involved in the Great Fly Off. We had to design a paper plane, make it and then fly it to see how long it could stay in the air and how far it could fly. We had our first trial for the Great Fly Off in the stadium.
Designing and making our planes
We graphed the results of our trials and wrote a report.
We looked at the design of wings, the body of a glider and tried to make our paper plane like a glider. We had our final trial in the Multi Purpose room.

We read a book called, The Birdman. We wrote a character description of the Birdman and we also wrote a letter to him tell him what we thought of him and the actions he took in his city to get rid of the birds.

We had to saw our planes and use safety glasses to protect our eyes.
Here are our grade's solar planes, the propellers worked well in the sun
We had to glue and nail on the wings.
In English we wrote an explanation about how a solar plane works.

We read a book called "When Jessie came across the Sea." We pretended we were Jessie or Lou and wrote a letter to our her Grandma telling her of experiences travelling to America.
