Grade 4C 2008

Teacher: Miss Schiller

Welcome to Grade 4C at Anderson's Creek Primary School!

This year we have so many things to look forward to, like school camp at Phillip Island and a new synthetic turf oval (we can't wait until it's finished!) We have been really busy in term 1, learning about Force and Motion! Check out some of the great things we have been doing like our woodwork incursion and the Great Fly Off!

Term 2 started off really well with an excursion to the Immigration Museum and Lygon Street for pizza lunch and gelato! We can't wait to learn more about our 'Pack Your Bags' topic on immigration!

Woodwork with Craftpower

In Term 1 we had a woodwork incursion. We made solar powered aeroplanes. We used a pattern to cut the wood to size to make the wings and body, there were many different types of aeroplanes that we could make. Secondly we used a solar cell, wires, a small motor and a plastic propeller. When we put the finished aeroplane out in the sun, the propeller would spin. Read some of our Explanations below on how the system worked!

"I thought it was very enjoyable learning about solar panels and putting it all together".........George 4C

"I think it was fun and interesting to find out how solar panels worked and I liked sawing the plane out of the wood. It was a really nice day"...........Victoria 4C

The Great Fly Off

The Grade 3 and 4 students took part in The Great Fly Off! Every student in each grade designed a paper aeroplane. Our class tested our aircraft in the stadium, investigating hang time and length of flight. The best paper plane was selected and we all made the same design, modifying and experimenting with wing span, body width and length and the tails stabiliser. We tested our new gliders and came up with an overall winning design. We created a website for our Intranet with all the details, designs, photos and graphs of both flight tests. Take a look at our Instructional pieces and some of our graphs produced in Microsoft Excel and published in Publisher.

"I thought it was really fun to make a design of a paper plane of our choice and to see how far it could fly"............Tayla 4C

"It's interesting to see how far the planes could fly depending on the folds that you do. One small fold could make it go much more further"............Sam 4C

Our Excursion

We went on an excursion to the Immigration Museum and Lygon Street. It ties in well with our topic this term called 'Pack Your Bags'. All the grade 3's and 4's went, we had a fantastic time! Firstly we stopped by Lygon Steet for Gelato with our Italian teacher. She told us a little bit about Lygon Street and organised a 'Spotto'. Afterwards we went to the Immigration Museum and had a talk and tour. To finish the day off we went back to Lygon Street and had pizza for lunch! It has been noted as The Best Excursion Ever!
