Australian Salmon     By Jake and Brent

There are many different types of salmon throughout the world. In Australia there are 2 main types- the Eastern Salmon and the Western Salmon. The Eastern Australian Salmon is also  known as the arripis trutta and kanawai.

The fish on the right is a Salmon.

Appearance:

The Australian salmon is dark green blue with dark spots on its back & uppers sides shading from yellow  green to  silver white on their belly. Young fish are sometimes called bay trout in Victoria- they are silver white with gold brown spots on their backs and sides.
Feeding:

They eat small bait fish  and chase them from the bottom up to the surface of the water where the water is said to be boiling as all the little baitfish  are chased  upwards this makes the water look like its boiling. This is a great place to fish as the salmon will bite at anything that moves.  They are found in water from 2-3 meters up to 80 meters deep.
