Name and Size The Eastern Bilby's scientific name is Macrotis Lagotis sagitta. The Bilby's full name is Macroft Lagotis. The size of the male is 29-55 cm. The female is smaller. The males weight is 2.5kg, and the female's weight is 1.1kg. |

The Bilby is located in Queensland and the Northern Territory. It's Habitat is in desert areas in Australia with open woodland and grassland which are suitable for digging. There are many types of Bilby. There is the Western Bilby, the Eastern Bilby and the normal Bilby. The Bilby also can live in Western Australia. The Bilby only lives in Australia and nowhere else. Once the Bilby used to take over 70% of the mainland. The endangered Bilby retreated to the desert areas in central Australia. When cats, foxes and rabbits were introduced they claimed the Bilby's land. There used to be another much smaller Bilby species known as the Lesser Bilby called the Macotis leucura from central Australia that has been presumed extinct since the 1930s.

Identification
The Bilby has long rabbit ears which are finely furred and has a soft blue grey fur and has white fur on it's belly. It also has a long snout and a black and white tail. It has three clawed toes that are ideal for burrowing. Female Bilby has a backward opening pouch. The Bilby's closest relative is the bandicoot . When a Bilby has a baby, it stays in her pouch for 80 days. 200 years ago in Australia there were millions of The Bilby but now there is only a few thousand that remain today. Diet:
