Blue Tongue lizards have little scales over lapping on their back.   The Blue Tongue lizard is a reptile. The Eastern Blue Tongue lizard is a silvery colour with dark brown bands across the back of the tail and a black stripe between the eyes. Blue Tongue lizards are 600 mm long . They weigh one kg and have a Blue Tongue to scare off enemies by putting out their Blue Tongue and hissing.     

 

Food

 

The Blue Tongue Lizards eat worms slugs, snails ,small plants, compost and insects. They catch there food by attracting insects with their Blue Tongue. The Blue sticky Tongue attracts the insects  then the Tongue rotates back and forwards . The lizard drinks fresh  water.     

Habitat

 

Blue Tongue lizards live mostly all over Australia and in open country. They shelter under trees and leaves or under large objects such as logs and rocks. Sometimes they live in gardens. This is a picture of where the Blue Tongue lizard lives. The red is where it lives and the green is where it doesn't.         

  

Life span

 

Blue Tongue lizards live together between September and November. Males have to be more aggressive so they can mate. First the two lizards mate. Two months later the female lizard gives birth to live babies.

Predators

 

 The Blue Tongue Lizard's predators are  birds like Kookaburras and Brown Falcons. Also large snakes such as Brown Snake, Red Belly Black Snake and the Mulga snake. Cats and Dogs some times attack resulting in dead lizards in gardens. 

Skeletal System

 

 The Blue Tongue lizards has about 70 bones all together. The bones are so fragile and they could snap like a twig. The teeth are very small and could hurt you or even cut you. Their ribs are very important to them they are tiny.
