How to Raise a Possum:
Possums urine can change colour too, often a brown colour. Young joeys can be warm in there pouches near the handler's chest. Any handling that needs to be done should be kept minimum. A daily diary should be kept with a record of time the possum is fed. Toileting should be attempted after each feed without fail. Joeys which are not toileted regularly can run into very series trouble. Possums eat there own poo. When your possum gets bigger it needs more time out of the pouch in the evening exercising. This includes running up curtains climbing over furniture and generally getting into mischief! Possums need branches for climbing up and on, drought free dry nesting boxes up high and some logs on the floor for them to sit on. |
| HABITAT
In Australia possums are found almost everywhere where there are suitable trees or bushes, eucalypts along watercourses in non -arid regions and in rainforests. Some species, such as the ringtails of the tropical rainforest have had their range reduced by the clearing of their habitat for agriculture. Other species are preyed upon by introduced carnivores mainly foxes and feral cats. |
