Gold was very
important in the 1850s
and still important today, because
many people visit Warrandyte to see where gold was once found.
The Pound Bend Tunnel is in the
State Park of Warrandyte and it is an historical land mark. The tunnel
was built to change the course of the river bed exposed for the gold
dredging. Miners in the 1900's dredged for gold in the river bed.
The miners dug the Pound Bend
Tunnel approximately 195 meters long, 5m wide and 3-4 meters deep.
