Colonial Stadium is a new multi-purpose venue in the
city of Melbourne, built in 1999-2000. The roof of the stadium opens and closes in 20 minutes or less. Two sections of the roof slide apart. The roof is 35 metres above the grass playing surface. |
| Instead of light towers there are more than 700
lights and 2 video screens. The lower seats move in and out depending on the event that is on. Strips of grass can be taken out and new pieces put in. There are 66 Corporate Boxes. You can reach the stadium by bus, car, tram, train, or ferry. One hundred events will be held there each year, including 35 football matches. Three Australian Rules football teams, Essendon, St Kilda and the Bulldogs, will play their home games there. |
