The last Saturday in September is
reserved for the Australian Football League's Grand
Final, when the M.C.G is filled with over 100,000
spectators. The Melbourne Cricket Ground is one of Australia's greatest assets. It is by far the biggest and most popular stadium and an extremely busy venue accommodating International Cricket, Australian Rules Football, concerts, dinners and other major sporting functions on its natural turf arena. |
| The Melbourne Cricket Ground is used a lot. There are
more than ninety days of cricket and football each year
and attendances exceed 3.5 million people annually. There are many restuarants which have great views of the oval. People can bring visitors who can have dinner and watch the game in comfort. Sometimes at the start of the Football season and at the Grand Final they have huge fireworks. In 1998, Billy Joel and Elton John played to big crowds at a concert. The second M.C.G staging of a Bledisloe Cup attracted 75,147 people. Mushroom Records celebrated 25 years of Rock 'n Roll with a spectacular concert at the M.C.G, drawing more then 55,000 people to the ground. |

The Gallery of Sport Museum at the M.C.G has all
kinds of things that the cricketers, footballers and
sporting heroes used in the olden days. You can go on a
tour of the MCG and the Gallery of Sport.

| There are two scoreboards at the M.C.G. They have the scores displayed on them and replays of the game. In August 1999 one of the scoreboards caught on fire so they had to get a new score board. |
