Mt Beauty is 344 km north east of Melbourne, 62km south east of Myrtleford in the Kiewa Valley on a northern border of the Alpine National Park. For the aborigines from the time of the Dreaming, the high country has been a meeting place of feasting and good sport. After Spring the Aborigines of the seven tribes of north east Victoria get together on the banks of the Murray River at Albury. The Aboriginal name for the moth is Bogong and today the Bogong Moth festival people get together to celebrate peace and good living. |
| The powerful streams of Mt Beauty help protect the
high country for future people. High up in the Kiewa
Valley the town of Mt Beauty is beneath Mt Bogong. It is
the highest peak in the Victoran Alps. Mt Beauty is set
in rich valley and snow mountains and rivers full of
fish. In winter you can ski for kilometres. In spring the wild flowers are beautiful. |

| Mt Beauty was built to house workers involved in the
building and operation of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme
in the late 1940's. The Bogong High Plains road gave Victoria more power and helped the development of Falls Creek, the second largest ski resort in Victoria. |
