Wave Rock By Sinea and Amy

Wave Rock gets its name, because it resembles a large surf breaker. It is estimated to be 2,700 million years old. Wave Rock is near a place called Hyden, which is approximately 330 kilometres {200 miles} south east of Perth, Western Australia.

Wave Rock is in Western Australia

Wave Rock was once partly buried. The effects of underground water and organic acids dissolved the underside of the rock, causing its concave shapes. As the soil was washed away, Wave Rock emerged and was further weathered by rain and wind - blown particles, which shaped and smoothed the surface. It is over 100 metres long and 15 meters high.

The colours range from deep grey, ochre reds and a pale sandy tint. Wave Rock is made of granite.
Many tourists visit this magnificent rock formation on one of the great tours out of Perth. On the tour you go to two different rock formations, including Wave Rock.
