Army Barracks.

By Ryan and James.

The Queenscliff Fort was built in 1882 to protect Port Phillip and Victoria from invaders who wanted to be rich and get the gold.

The bricks were hand made so if a canon ball hits the bricks they crumble instead of turning into sharp pieces and hurting their own people.

While they were building the Fort, at night all the solders slept in tents.

The first building they built was the Drill Hall. They used the drills hall for marching practice, dances, entertaining, playing cards games, chess, and other games.

The second building they built was the Guardroom.
The Guardroom is the only part of the army barracks that is still being used today.

The Army Barracks was built on a design of a castle and the dirt got built up on the inside so the soldiers could either stand and fire, or lie down and fire or kneel and fire.
The keep is three storeys high.
They made the keep so the soldiers on duty could stay in there for a week.
There was enough food in there for about a week and soldiers guarded the fort.
The two lighthouses were coloured black and the other lighthouse was coloured white. They used the lighthouses to guide ships through the channel by lining up the bow of the ship with one lighthouse and the stern with the other lighthouse.

The Black Lighthouse.

The Black Lighthouse is one of three in the world. The Black Lighthouse is a Scottish design. The stones were brought from the Yarra Valley. The lighthouse was ninety-three steps upwards and it was made by the convicts.
Some light poles were painted to look like guns and cannons so they could trick the invaders.
The flood lights were used to help rescue people and search for their own people if they get lost, or for looking out for invaders attacking them.
Under the ground they had to change their clothes to white because you couldn't see gun powder on your clothes if they were black and you might accidently blow yourself up.

These were the large rifles that were used.
