ATHERTON TABLELAND

Atherton Tableland is a tropical tableland in North Queensland. It is about 100 kilometres away from Cairns. It has valleys, rainforests, waterfalls and wildlife. There are rivers and places to swim, walking tracks, cliffs and many trees and bushes.
There is a tropical park which has the two highest mountains in the state - Mount Bartle Frere and Mount Bellenden (1622 metres).
Atherton Tableland is a peaceful place and has lots of small towns and farm land.

Atherton Tablelands was named after a man called John Atherton. In Atherton District there are goldmines.

Some of Atherton Tablelands trees are grown in deep, rich volcanic soil. The trees are huge and in one park all the trees wrap around each other. There are waterfalls in the park also.

At the Atherton Tablelands you can go bushwalking or picnicing, swimmming or on a tour. A train takes you over the cliffs wihich have water running down them.

There are lots of places for people to stay at Atherton Tableland.
