The bakery is on the main road in the middle of Warrandyte and not far from the bridge. The Yarra River is behind the bakery. It was built over 100 years ago. Today the baker still uses the old wood-fired oven.
He uses a shovel to put the bread in the oven and to take the bread out too.

We watched the baker and his helpers.
These are the machines they used
  • dough mixer
  • bread roll maker
  • a roller machine
  • bread slicer
  • warming cabinet

In the old days the baker had his flour delivered by horse and cart. today a truck brings the ingredients. The baker has to buy:

  • flour
  • salt
  • yeast
  • sugar
  • oil
  • butter
  • eggs
  • icing sugar
  • jam
  • milk
  • meat poppy seeds
  • sesame seeds
We kneaded some dough and used heaps of sesame and poppy seeds. It was great fun! I took the dough home and Mum cooked it. It was yummy.
The bread is very hot so the baker has to use a spade to get it out of the oven.

The baker uses these utensils
  • mixing bowls
  • spoons, forks, knives
  • trays and tins
  • rolling pins
  • cutters
  • flour sifters
  • spray bottle

Next time we go to the bakery the baker is going to show us how to make meat pies.

The baker makes a lot of yummy things to sell in the shop:
  • pies
  • pasties
  • sausage rolls
  • bread
  • bread rolls
  • bread sticks
  • doughnuts
  • scones
  • muffins
  • jam tarts
  • chocolate cake
  • carrot cake

"My favourite food is a doughnut."

"I like the bread the baker made specially for us. We spread it with butter. Everybody had a piece."

The Warrandyte bakery is a great place to visit especially if you are hungry.
