Queensland's beaches are very famous around the world, because of their crystal blue waters and their soft white sand. When people pass a beach in Queensland, they are usually eager to go for a swim or a play. In Queensland, along the coast the most magnificent beaches are on the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and in North Queensland, especially around Cairns, Townsville and the Whitsundays.

On the beaches in Queensland you can ride the wild waves at a surf beach or you can float dreamily as the calm water laps against you. You can lie on the shore and relax as the sun warms up your body and the cool wind from the sea refreshes you. There are so many beaches in Queensland that there is an endless choice of beaches for you to visit. Some that shouldn't be missed are, Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast and Mission Beach near Cairns.

Queensland is famous for its long warm summers and short cool winters. With the sun shining almost every day, you can enjoy fun at the beach all year round.

Coral Reefs

Fringing reef, Barrier reef and Atoll are three types of Coral reefs. Fringing reefs extend outwards from the shore of an island or mainland with no body of water between the reef and land. Barrier reefs occur further offshore with a channel or lagoon between the reef and shore. Atolls are coral islands, typically consisting of a narrow, horseshoe-shaped reef enclosing a shallow lagoon. The Great Barrier Reef is a famous tourist attraction on the Queensland coast.
