CARNAVON GORGE

Carnavon Gorge is a gorge in Queensland. The cliffs are more than 200 meters high, it is 400 metres wide and 50 metres across. It's about 600 kilometres north-west of Brisbane.
The main trees in the gorge are the River She-Oaks, the Bottlebrush and the Native Cherry.
The wildlife found around the area is the HoneyEater, the Wren and the Lorikeet. The Reptiles found include Goannas, Snake and water animals include many different frogs, eels and catfish.
Paintings have said too be 3,500 years old. Aborigines once lived there but that was 4000-5000 years ago.

Carnvon Gorge is made of sandstone. It has been long famed for its aboriginal paintings because they are over 500 years old! That's old! Carnavon Creek is about 15 kms long. Many of the main rock tunnels have waterfalls or ice pools in them.It is one of the best natural features in Australia.
