Great Sandy Desert
By Aaron and Jamie
Great Sandy Desert is a flat area laying between the rocky ranges of the Pilbara and the Kimberley. To the south-east is the Gibson Desert. On the coast there are isolated sheep stations. The remainder of the region is largely uninhabited.
There is a low rainfall throughout, however on the coast and in the far north near the Kimberley region they have an average exceeding 300mm. (12ins) The rainfall is patchy with ther have been many drought years. Sometimes there are monsoonal cloud masses or tropical rains.
There are a lot of caves and holes in the Great Sandy Desert. There is not just sand there, but there are rocks, salt bushes and dead trees.
