| The House of Representatives is
known as the Lower House, the Green Room or the
People's House. The Speaker: In the House of Representatives there is a Speaker. His name is, Mr J.N Andrew MP. The role of the Speaker is to keep order of the Chamber. The Speaker sits in a leather chair above all the members of the House of Representatives. |

| Chairman of Committees: There is also a Chairman of Committees. The Chairman of Committees name is Mr 0. He takes over the Speaker's role if he is absent. He/She is also known as the Deputy Speaker. |

| Members: The Members represent the electorates. If you are a member you are either a part of the Government side or you could be part of the Opposition Party. You sit in what is called the 'Back seats'. You are not always needed in the 'House of Representatives'. If the Opposition calls for a vote, green lights start flashing on all the clocks in Parliament and make a ringing sound for 3 minutes to give members that are not present, time to come in and if they are not all there the other side could win the vote. Prime Minister: John Howard (The Prime Minster) is very important to Australia. He leads the Government and organizes the Ministerial jobs. Kim Beasley is the Leader of the Opposition, he would have been the Prime Minister of Australia if he had won more seats. |

| The Mace The Mace is a Gold rod that is placed on the table that the Prime Minister sits on. The Serjeant- at -Arms carries the Mace into Parliament, first he\she knocks on the door with the Mace and then brings the mace in and places it on the stand on the table with the crown facing the Government side. The name of the Serjeant-at -Arms is Ms. J Middlebrooks. |
