Penguin Parade
By Adrian and Jacob
| The penguins live at Phillip Island. The best time to visit
is at sunset. Phillip Island is in Victoria. It is a
natural feature except for the building. It is built so
people can watch the penguins. People can find out about
penguins and buy little toy penguins from the shops
inside. |

This is a map of Phillip Island. It
shows sites of interest such as: The Nobbies, Rhyll, Cowes, Woolamai Beach and the place where the penguins come in. Millions of visitors come to see the penguins march along the beach to the safety of their burrows. |
| There are some wooden burrows in the dunes which have been man-made so the penguins can live in them safely. Millions of tourists visit in busloads and carloads at sunset to see the penguins. They go there for fun or because they have never seen penguins before. | ![]() |

You can watch the penguins woddle up on to the beach.
This photo shows what they look like. Their burrows are
in the sand dunes behind the beach. During breeding
season there are eggs and young in the burrows. Despite every effort to protect the penguins, things can happen. Sometimes there may be an oil spill from ships passing by and penguins get covered in oil. The penguins then have to be carefully washed and looked after until they can maintain their own body heat again. Cats gone wild are another big problem. |
