Introduction

At Potters Cottage you will find a gallery, a restaurant and a potters school. Potters Cottage was established at its present site in 1961. The potters school was established in 1969 and in the same year the potters built the restaurant. The potters made all the plates, dishes and other tableware that is used in the restaurant. One of the potters made the light fittings as well. In the gallery you will see paintings, pottery and other artwork. At the Potters school potters use the studio for their work and students learn the skills of pottery.

	We visited the Potters School at Potters Cottage and we were shown what a potter does. Ola is a potter. He showed us that the clay has to be worked and balled to begin work.
We saw how to cone the clay. It looks slimy.	Clay Grey,slimy. Gooey, great. Slips, stretches. Moist, dry. Soft, hard. Coils, flattens. Hands shape it. Easy to make it. By 2P	Ola showed us how to use the potter's wheel.
This is Ola making a pot. He uses his hands to make a jug, a pot or a mug. He has a potter's wheel.	. Ola at the Potters School loves his job. He can make 20 pots a day.	Ola is making a bowl.
When the pot is ready he puts a handle on it with clay. He enjoys his work.	Ola is showing us how to make clay flat. He is using the rolling machine.
	We looked at the kiln. It is noisy and and it is hot too. The kiln is used to fire the clay after it has been glazed.	At the Potters School they make jugs out of clay. This is a jug. It has just come out of the kiln.
