This is the public coining
press, the main presses are like this but much
larger and press more coins per minute.

When you enter the Royal
Australian Mint you
will set foot on the beautiful emerald green
carpet, this leads to the theatrette. A small
introductory film is presented to you . It
explains the Mints history and what it
manufactures. As you exit the theatrette you will
come across the cafeteria on your right. On your
left is the public coining press were you can see
how fast a coin is pressed & take home the
2000 limited edition one dollar coin. This makes
a great souvenir! If you continue to follow the
emerald green carpet and forward up the stairs
you will come across the Numismatic Gallery . You
can view the great displays of coins that are now
part of the past, from other global countries
& Australias new & old Olympic
medals. As you continue
along the self guided tour, you will take a
glance through windows that over look the places
in the Mint where the public is not allowed. This
is were the actual coins and medals are made.
As you come to the end of the
emerald green carpet, the last window is over
looking the location of the coining presses.
These presses, press up to 650 (six hundred and
fifty) coins per minute.
When you have completed the
self guided tour you can buy some really great
souvenirs, to remember the fantastic and
hopefully educational time at The Royal
Australian Mint!
