Senate Chamber

By Julie, Jemima and Katie-anne

How Many.......

There are 12 senators in every state and 2 in every territory. The senate is mostly known as the ''States' House'' or ''The Upper House.

Senators.......

Electors vote on a state basis, when choosing their senators. Each state has 12 senators, while each territory has 2 senators. It doesn't matter about size or population, so Western Australia and Tasmania have exactly the same amount of senators. The 12 senators are elected for 6 years at a time. The 4 senators from the Territory's are able to serve the same amount of time as the people in the House of Reps (representatives).

This is a map of the Senate.

Voting.......

The colour of the ballot paper for the Senate is red, but you must be 18 or over to be eligible to vote. You must enroll to vote at 17 then when you turn 18, you can go and have your say.

General Information.......

The Senate is the ''Red Room'' of Parliament. There are two houses of Parliament The House of Representatives and the Senate. The Senate has a President and The House of Reps. has a speaker. All decisions which have been passed in to the House of Reps. then go into the Senate.
