The Grampians

The Grampians is a place in Victoria where people like to visit to camp, bush walk and mountain climb.
It was formed about 350 million years ago. It has very high rocks and wonderful views. It is one of the biggest national parks in Victoria.

Major Thomas Mitchell was the first European to visit the Grampians. He named the area after a place in Scotland.

The Aboriginals call the Grampians "Gariwerd".

The Grampians is very large and has many native animals, bird life and native plants.

It has beautiful flowers like the Common Correa, Pink Bells, Flame Grevillea and the Victorian Smoke Bush.

The Grampians has many varieties of trees like the Eucalypts, Tea Trees, Stringybark Gums, Yellow Gum Red Gum.
There are many animals like koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, possums and reptiles in the Grampians.
