Warrandyte Artists        By 2P

The Kopietz's are Warrandyte artists who paint, print and sculpt.  Gunther is a sculptor and Belinda paints and makes a lot of prints.
We went on the bus to  go to their gallery and studio. Their house and studio have a great view.

We asked them why they live in Warrandyte.  They said that it was because it is in the bush and other artists live here. Inga King -sculptor and Gunther's teacher; said that Warrandyte was a great place to live.

Gunther's Gallery has a lot of sculptures in it.

This is how Gunther makes a sculpture.

StepOne - He gets a big log

and thinks up his ideas.

Step Two - He makes the shape using his tools. Gunther always wears a safety mask and ear muffs. We saw all of Gunther's tools. Some of us liked the chain saw the best. Gunther uses a chisel to shape the wood.  He also glues pieces together.

Step Three - He smoothes the shape using an arbitec.

Step Four - He paints in the details.

THE SCULPTOR

Selecting wood

Using tools

Carving, shaping, sawing.

Chiselling and smoothing.

We like the lady in the bikini.

Step Five - He makes a bronze statue of the ones going outside.

After  finding out about how Gunther sculpts we then went to visit Belinda's studio.  Belinda has done a lot of paintings and she showed us how to  make a print.  It was good.

THE PRINT MAKER

Carves the block

Chooses the paper

Soaks the paper

Rolls out the ink evenly

Inks the block.

Presses it onto  the paper

We like the printing press and Belinda's little book of prints.
