Jean Galbraith was Australia's most noted botanist and author. She joined the Latrobe Valley Field Club in 1993. She joined the Strezlecki Club for the last 6 years before she died. Jean died on the 2nd of January 1999. Her father was born in Tyes and her mother in Beechworth. She died at Olivet aged 92. She was 16 when she met Mr.H.B.Williamson at a wildflower show in Melbourne.

Jean Galbraith was 13 when she wrote this poem in 1919. "Sunset" "In this one space, In this Red night, All deepest glory is portrayed, And in these rays of God's own light, Though they slowly sank away, Remembrance stayed".
