Kieren  Perkins     by Emily and Laura

Kieren Perkins is an Olympic swimmer. He was born on the 14th of August 1973 in Queensland. He has one sister. He started swimming when he was eight. He has broken 12 world records and 40 Australian records.   He has won five gold and two silver medals. In the Olympic Games he has a nickname called 'The King'. People think Kieren is the  greatest swimmer in the history. In 1990 he began breaking world records in 400, 800 and 1500 metre events at the World  Championships and Commonwealth Games. Kieren was keen to win his third successive 1500m Olympic gold medal in the year. Recently he announced that he will no longer complete.

At the 2000 Olympic Games Kieren further cemented himself as the greatest distance swimmer of all times, winning silver in the 1500m freestyle, to make him the first person in history to win three consecutive Olympic medals in the 1500 metres swimming race.  Until he and Alex Popov did it in 2000, no one had achieved this since 1924. Kieren swam his first  big race in 1990 when he was sixteen at the Commonwealth Games. His coach predicted Kieren would swim under 15 minutes in the 1500m. Nobody would believe it, but Kieren  swam a time that was 14:58.08 to become only the 3rd person to break the 15 minutes barrier.
He has two children called Georgia and Harry, (Harrison). His wife's name is Sam, (Symantha).
