Olivia Newton-John is one of Australia's popular country-pop and soft-rock singers. She became one of the most successful singers of the of the 1970's. As a country singer, her first 5 singles all went Top 10 in America. As a pop singer, she had no less than 15 Top 10 hits, including 5 number one singles, which spent 10 weeks at number one in 1981-1982. These hits kept her at the top of the music charts until the mid- 80's. Olivia Newton-John was born in Cambridge, England on September 26th 1948, her family moved to Australia when she was 5 and grew up in Melbourne. Her mother was German, her father Welsh. She entered show business at the age of 12. She showed an interest in singing at an early age, and at 16 formed a band called Soul Four with her school friends. When the band split up, she entered a television Talent contest, winning First Prize of a trip to London, England. Olivia took this trip to London in 1965 and soon recorded and released her first single, "Till You Say You'll Be Mine Forever". |

In 1970, Olivia Newton-John
became part of Cliff Richards touring show, appearing in the opening acts
and at his concerts. This helped Olivia's career and her first single,
"If Not For You", became a top 10 hit in the UK. For the next two
years her success was mostly in England. She moved to Los Angeles in 1974,
there she won the Female Singer of the Year Award. In 1978, she starred in
a movie called GREASE also starring John Travolta. The movie was a great
success. In 1980, Olivia starred in Xanadu. |
| By the end of 1984, Olivia had married actor Matt Lattanzi. In 1986, she had a daughter named Chloe and Olivia opened a clothing store chain in America called Koala Blue. In 1992 Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her treatment was successful and in 1994 she returned to recording and released an album called Gaia. She became a United Nations Ambassador for the environment and Gaia included songs about the environment. She loves animals and is a very good horse rider. She has a house in Malibu and has many dogs and horses and other creatures on the property. |
