Peter was born on the 26th of February 1946. He grew up on a farm in Melbourne with his parents and three brothers. At school Peter was very good at sport and enjoyed playing football. At 15 Peter would drive his car around the family farm and found his job selling car parts, very interesting. In 1964, when he was 19 he went into the army for 2 years. While in the army he started to build his own racing car. The cost of the car was $600. The car had its first race in 1967 but didn't finish the race.
Peter's first Bathurst race was in 1969 with the Holden Team. Bathurst wasn't the only track that Peter Brock raced on.  He also raced on the Sandown track, Oran Park and Phillip Island. He won in Sandown and he used the prize money to race at Bathurst and won by two laps with co-driver Brian Sampson and won by two laps. He also went on two win at Phillip Island.

At the end of 1974 Peter left the Holden team and went out on his own. In 1975 Peter had problems with his car in seven starts. There were four times when he didn't finish. Money was a problem because he needed lots of it to keep racing. Peter started to do other work as well. He did safety talks for the Road Safety Authority and his talks were interesting. He told stories and jokes. In 1978 he returned to the Holden team and  won by a lap. In 1986 Peter and his co-driver Allan Moffat raced overseas at Spa in Belgium, they won the King's Cup for the best team results. In 1992 Peter started to race Holden's again. In 1994 he was back on the Holden team. In 1995 he was voted "Personality of the year" for the Motor Sports Awards.

In October 1997 he retired after the Primus 1000 race at Bathurst.
