Christine was born in Cairns, North Queensland, of Torres Strait Islands descent. Since graduating from N.A.I.S.D.A Christine Anu has sang both in Australia and overseas with Bangarra dance theatre and the Aboriginal and Island Dance Theatre.
She learnt to play the Ukulele when she was five or six. She listened to Young Talent Time and admired Tina Arena who was about three years older than her. Christine told her mum that she could sing like that and also wanted to be on Young Talent Time when she was ten. |

Awards 1995 Christine's album "Stylin' Up" won the ARIA award for the best Aboriginal/ Island album. 1996 Christine won two awards, one for the best Aboriginal release and one for the best female.

Musicals Christine has starred in: 1997 Christine starred in "Little Shop of Horrors" 1998-1999 Christine was a big success in "Rent" as "Mimi". She was so good she was asked to perform in the Broadway version but she had an album to work on. The Olympics 2000 Christine performed in the Sydney Olympics closing ceremony. She sang "My Island Home" in honour of her love for Mabuiag Island where she moved to when she was ten. |

Cathy Freeman Christine met Cathy at the ARIA awards a few years ago but it was not until she saw her racing in Seville in 1999 the "Coz I'm Free" came together. When Cathy raced in Seville and won, the camera zoomed up on Cathy and Christine saw Cathy's tattoo saying "Coz I'm Free" this gave Christine the idea for a song.
