When John was young he like to watch the 1500m running events. John Landy was a runner in the 1956 Olympics. He ran in the men's 1500m final. One of the things John is famous for is he is one of Australia's greatest sporting legends and the second man to run four-minute mile. Landy did the most incredibly, beautiful, foolish, thing! In one of his races, he stopped running, then he started to run back to help Ron Clarke (another famous Australian runner) because he had fallen. Clarke was all right and Landy came second in the race. John Landy was a world record holder and Olympic medallist for the mile during the 1950's. He is one of Australia's greatest sporting legends.

Landy an agricultural scientist has a particular interest in butterflies. He has written two books on natural history.  John and his wife are celebrating their 30 years of marriage this year.
