Peter  Cosgrove By Sam

Peter Cosgrove was Australian of the Year 2001, because he lead the army in East Timor to achieve peace there. 

He was born in Sydney in 1947 and went to school at WAVERLEY COLLEGE before he went to a Military College in 1965 and he graduated in 1968.

He went to the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.

He was awarded the Military Cross for service in Vietnam, because he did many brave things at the Vietnam War.

 

Peter Cosgrove went to East Timor as Major General and commanded INTERFET, the International Forces in East Timor. 

 

 

He worked in close cooperation with the UN peacekeeping process to protect the East Timorese. 

He is now in Australia as Land Commander.

Peter-Cosgrove is married to Lynne and has three sons named Stephen-Philip and David. He is a good sportsman who likes Rugby and plays Golf . And occasionally cricket. His other things he likes are reading and music.
