| Shane Warne was born on the 3rd of September 1969 in the southern suburbs of Melbourne. His big dream was to play football for St Kilda. He tried out for football. He was a bit chubby, but he knew how to kick a ball. In 1988 Shane was picked for the under-19 football team. After two years, he was dropped. The St Kilda Club thought he was too slow for top grade football. |

Instead Shane decided to take cricket seriously. He had always been good at cricket especially at bowling. The 1993 series was Shane's first tour of England. He was looking forward to playing England. English batsman don't play well against good spinners especially good leg spinners. |
| All the countries that play cricket played in England in 1999. They all wanted to win the World Cup. Australia was one of the favorites to win the Cup. Shane started the competition slowly, he found it kind of hard to take wickets. In the match against South Africa he started to take wickets again. Australia made the final against Pakistan. Shane bowled very well. Australia won easily. Surrounded by his team- mates, Shane held the World cup proudly above his head. |

| In 1991-92 the Indian cricket team visited Australia. Indian cricketers are good spin bowlers, and Indian batsmen are very good against spinners. Shane's first game for Australia was not a happy one. The Sydney test was played on a 'flat batting 'pitch'. This makes it hard for spin bowlers to bowl well. The Indian batsmen scored many runs. A lot of them were scored against Shane! Shane just took one wicket in this game. Shane knew that Australia would play the great Indian team next summer, and he wanted desperately to win. Shane started to learn how to bowl a 'flipper'. When he bowled the 'flipper' it stayed low and got faster as it got closer to the batsmen. Shane knew that this would be very difficult for batsmen to play. |
Shane has helped Australia win many games.
