| The members of the house of representatives are elected by the people to represent certain areas called electorates. Three years is the longest you can stay in the House of Representatives unless you get re-elected in the next elections. Most ministers including the Prime Minister are members of the House of Representatives. The house has 148 members. | ![]() |

The Political Parties that are represented in the house are the Liberal party, the Australian Labor Party and the National Party of Australia. There have also been a couple of independent members for a few years.

The House of Representatives main colour is green.
It is the lower house in Parliament. Its name comes from the English name, The House Of Commons, and it represents all Australians.
The party which win the most seats in the lower house (House of Reps) becomes the government. Dame Enid Lyons became the first woman elected to the house. The Chamber is green because long ago green was the colour worn by ordinary people.
