| Kakadu National Park is one of the most spectacular landmarks in Australia's wilderness areas. Kakadu is in the top end of Australia's Northern Territory. This park and the Great Barrier Reef were the first Australian areas placed on the World Heritage list. It is a place of towering cliffs, gorges, woodlands, large open spaces, waterfalls and rivers that cut through grasslands. It is recognised for its unique plants, animals and landscapes. Kakadu is 6,600 square miles of woods and wetlands. Kakadu has many spectacular sites like Yellow waters ,Jim Jim Falls, Alligator river, Jim Jim creek. |

YELLOW WATERS Yellow Waters is a beautiful wetland which is in Kakadu. Yellow waters is also famous for its crocodiles. People come from all around Australia to see the crocodiles. JIM JIM FALLS Jim Jim falls is the name of a large waterfall in Kakadu . This beautiful waterfall is as tall as an 11 story building. Salt water crocodiles are known to live all around Kakadu in places like Jim Jim falls and Yellow Waters.

| Kakadu covers an area of 1 755 300 hectares, the park covers a large part of Arnham Land. The National Park contains three major land forms of Arnham Land- the sandstone plateau, the country to the west and a low lying area with its flood plains and lagoons. The great rock wall is the park's biggest feature. The wall, in some parts of the park is 450 metres high and its total length is 600 km. More than 1000 sites with Aboriginal paintings have been discovered. Aborigines lived in the area over 30000 years ago and the paintings are 18000 years old. |

Kakadu's creeks, rivers, lagoons and marshes provide a home for the giant northern fish, the barramundi and many birds such as the Magpie Goose, the Birdekin duck, egrets, herons, Brolgas and Jabirus. At dusk over 100000 birds gather in the Woolwonga wetland. The parks Mangroves, grasslands, eucalypt woodlands and patches of rainforest provide a habitat for over 1000 plant species, 270 species of birds,50 native mammals, 43 native fish and 22 frog species. Some plant species are yet to be discovered. Buffalo were introduced in 1838 from Indonesia, have damaged large areas of the water courses and vegetation. |
| Kakadu is famous for its weather changes, very wet summers and very dry winters. The monsoon in November covers the lower areas with water. Kakadu is rich in uranium, gold and platinum. |
