Getting Started: The Project will begin in May and conclude at the beginning of July.

  1. Each student in the class constructs a paper plane from a piece of A4 paper only, which will stay in the air for as long as possible. (The type of A4 paper will be specified).
  2. Students trial their model, evaluate and redesign.
  3. Conduct a class competition recording the time the model is in the air. The competition must be held inside. Students are allowed to throw their model and the timing starts from when the model leaves their hand until it hits the floor. A school hall is a good venue for the competition.
  4. The winning model is selected.
  5. The builder of the winning model instructs class as to how to construct the model.
  6. Students build, modify, trial and evaluate the model and attempt to improve its flight time.
  7. The final model is agreed on through class consultation.
  8. Students formulate instructions on how to create their model for publication on the web. This may use a range of Web hypermedia multimedia technology.
  9. Students could utilize a digital camera or scanner to convey the instructions in conjunction with text and diagrams. Teacher professional development activities will be provided in the use of the equipment.
  10. Students place the information relating to construction on the Web using FrontPage. The school's partner school will have completed the same task and through e-mail schools will coordinate the exchange of URL's for their Web site.
  11. Each partner school will take the other's model design and construct it, following the instructions on the web and utilizing e-mail if any problems are met.
  12. Schools will trial, evaluate and provide advice to their partner school regarding their design.
